The difference between 9000pro and 9700pro

Just wondering what the difference between these two cards are, and too lazy to actually look it up on the net. I'm quite happy with my Parhelia, but if things go sour, just want to have some research done before hand. And I just hate nVidia's lack of decent 2d quality.

9000 is a dx8 card, and based on the 8500. There are modifications to the core, and the end result is that the 8500 is faster, even tho it has a lower number. 9700 is a completely different core, and is a dx9 card. The same core is in the 9700 pro/regular and 9500 pro. 9500 is also based on the same core, but has only half the number of pipelins iirc, anyway it is specced down in some way. Also, 9700 series has 256-bit bus while the 9500 cards have a 128-bit bus.

Don't let the ATI marketing scheme fool you a Radeon 9000Pro is a directx 8.1 videocard it's based on the RV250 core. A 9000Pro is a bit slower than a Radeon 8500 but the pixel shader of the 9000 is faster.
The Radeon 9700 and 9500 are based on the R300 core both are directx 9 video cards. A 9500 is a spec downed 9700.

To even add more confusion to everything theres a Radeon 9100 which is the same thing as the good ole Radeon 8500

What it all comes down to is the fact that 9700Pro is helluva faster than the 9000Pro and that it offers slightly better 2d quality. That is what matters to the consumer.

The additional DX9 features maybe aren't as important for the consumer at the moment, but they are there.

If you would have to look at the price, get a Radeon 9500 Pro, it isn't that expensive and offers good performance!
