Well, at least Via owns the domain, http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/...&SearchType=do

If they were hacked they prolly would have noticed it by now! the site has been up since friday.

We've had so many disappointments this year - the Parhelia, the P10, the XP4... the only graphics company who really delivered this year IMHO is ATi. I'm going to assume that Columbia will be another dismal failure (not that I'd expect anything very special from S3 anyway), and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised...

Yeah, but unlike Parhelia, it appears that the nextgen 3DLabs card based on the P10 could have something....and Creative might have the funds to back them up....

Aw, you've probably jinxed it now...

Seriously though, that would be a very good thing. The P10 seems to have everything except speed. I've been keeping one hungry eye on 3DLabs for a while now, to see how they handle Linux/non-Windows support. They've already given full P10 specs to Xi-Graphics - if they opened them up to the XFree86/DRI guys, I'd go and buy a VP560 tomorrow. (You hear that, 3DLabs?)

S3. Anyone own a Virge DX "3D" card?

And all the integrated video, S3 would need to make one hell of a card for me to look past the history of such high end cards.

Yeah, the Vision968 was the last good thing from S3 (I still have one in my 486). And even that was full of bugs.

About the Virge chips - I always hear everyone laughing about how the then high-end machines could render faster than the graphics chip. But IIRC, the big difference that a 3D chip made at that time wasn't speed as much as it was improved rendering quality. Could any CPU at that time render with bilinear filtering as fast as a Virge? The Voodoo was the first consumer 3D chip to emphasize speed. (IIRC)

The S3 cards were always fairly much yum-cha in the speed department. Even the 2d side was pretty yum-cha. They stayed on the 64-bit bus bandwagon when everyone moved to 128-bit buses.

They were always cheap and easy to get though

Yeah, i used to what i called an "S3 VIRGin". I had mah Virge DX w/ 2MB of VRAM. Saah-weet!
                      hehe.

Yes the S3D was actually quite good.

Maybe the hardware.....but the drivers were forever pitiful...
