I think we've found the reason why it's been pulled.

Ballcocks the suspend and resume download manager failed.
At least the web installer is now backup. When I'm back at work I'll have to burn the full download to CD.

The new ATI drivers want me to update the drivers for the DV side of my AIW. The only drivers that i can find are based on the older catalyst 2 driver set.

The DX9 installer is back on the M$ DirectX front page:

NOTE to WinXP Users: You MUST have Cryptographic Services ENABLED to install DX 9.0.

                            DX9

i too had to run the installer twice.

after the first install i tried to run dxdiag...i got the BSOD. after the system came back up i ran the installer again...no problems. all functions tested without a hitch.

Installing DX9 with DX8.1 graphic drivers should not hurt, in fact it should improve the overall performance.

DX is not only 3D it is sound, input, peripherials ... so you'll benefit from all the optimizations and new hardware supported in 9.0.
You (we) will only need a Matrox DX9 compatible drivers when games/apps demand DX9 specific features which in the next months is very unlikely.
