Microsoft's own products sometimes do this scripting BS.

Their picture publisher platinum thinger refused to run - had to reinstall the ****ing machine. And that was with XP. It's NOT the scripting version, it's some setting somewhere.

It _might_ be your security settings...

I've set the security level in IE to low, made sure running of scripts etc. was enabled and I've logged in as an Admin so I don't think it's that

Just tried it on my laptop, that's running Win2k SP2 and IE 5.0 , that worked fine , I'll try updating stuff on it and see If I can break it

Nah like I said it wasn't due to updating. I have NO idea what causes this, and I don't know that MS does either. BUT... I bet if you go peruse the help for their picture publisher platinum print spazzmowhack thinger, you might find a fix... that will also fix the HP problem!

            I'm glad I haven't bought yet
            I still can't decide.
I've been all over, but none of the local retailers carry the Canon for me to compare.

OTOH, the HP d135 has some good rebates this month, if your software problem goes away, I can pick that up for under US$300.

I just caved and ordered the HP d135. The print quality looked a lot nicer than the 2210 to me.

              $399 - $50 web coupon - $50 hp rebate + an $80 OfficeMax gift card = net cost of about $220, eventually.

Ok after many hours spend searching the net and trying various things I bit the bullet and reinstalled Windows 2000. The scanning software worked first time

I'd have preferred to have figured out what was causing it in case it happens again, but I guess I should be happy it's finally working.

bump this thread is few months old... but...

i just got myself a epson cx5200 yesterday. Plugged it in, installed drivers, started scanning + printing, worked perfectly. I have no problems with their drivers

The copier/scanner quality is simply amazing. I have never seen anything as precise as this!

Best part about my purchase is I paid 220 canadian for the entire unit. (40 dollars of for a promotional rebate) Hack, that is around 150 dollars US. Great considering I get 5760x1440dpi printing and 1200x2400x48bpp scanning. Besides, the printer module itself (same as the Epson C82) costs like 200 canadian itself. And u get the scanner and copier...

Conclusion: I am a happy buyer.

I may have gone for the Epson as well if I hadn't have required faxing

oo yea forgot to mention. it was cosco. lol. for once they actaully has something good. 40 dollars off from the "rebate booklet" they send u ever season.

I have a fax already, and all it does is making spam mails. so even if the multifunction has fax i wouldn't connect it

OTOH in my experience Lexmark's jets can be un-clogged easier than most other carts. I do mine by just filling the tanks and then wiping the heads with 2 layers of lens paper + 90% alcohol.

If it doesn't print right away I put it in a plastic bag and let it set for 24 hours in the upright position. A sponge under the head is a good idea.

You can also refill the tanks more times than HP or Canon before they clog up for good.

I've totally sworn off Epson because of the print head issues.
