A little (not so much) monkey and I came up with the following base system:

      AMD Athlon XP 1700+
      Asus NVIDIA nForce2, A7N8X Deluxe
      Crucial 2100 256MB (2)
      ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
      Fortissmo III

Not sure about the nForce board, though I've always had good luck with Asus, so the board is up for change. I've got the hard drive, cd-r/cd-rom drives, nic, and such covered, as well as the fan/heatsink (which still depends on the processor somewhat).

      Any thoughts or suggestions?

I would try to get Crucial 2700 (333MHz) sticks in stead of the 266MHz ones you've selected. Otherwise it looks pretty swell

        Cobos
        My Specs
        AMD XP 1800+, MSI KT3 Ultra1, Matrox G400 32MB DH, IBM 9ES UW SCSI, Plextor 32X SCSI, Plextor 8x/2x CDRW SCSI, Toshiba 4.8X DVD ROM IDE, IBM 30GB 75GXP, IBM 60GB 60GXP, 120GB Maxtor 540X, Tekram DC390F UW, Santa Cruz Soundcard, Eizo 17'' F56 and Eizo 21'' T965' Selfmodded case with 2 PSU's.

I've thought about that, however my budget is kinda slim and there are a few other things I would like to get (a scanner for one as my current one is dead).

I may forgoe on the Fortissmo for now (I'm big on sound, but I can deal with the output on the mobo).

Anyone know of some nice cases? Nothing too fancy, or "tricked-out", just something that looks good (the computer desk is in the living room for all to see).

Edit: Almost forgot, my current monitor is ok, but I'd like something a little better (it's a Delta DE770, 17"), but, once again, not too expensive. So if I can get some opinions on that I'd be greatful.

For the board, I'd have you go for the Epox 8RDA+.

For the ram, I'd have you go for 2x256mb Samsung/Twinmos PC2700/PC3200

If you want, you COULD get a Parhelia.

The Fortissimo III is an excellent choice, with a particularly warm sound.

You may also look at the new TBredB 2100+. With one of those you should be able to hit around 2.5ghz with the 8RDA+ and a Thermalright SLK800/SK7.

Hrm, the couch is kinda comfy...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them and see.
