    KvH:

Sasami is ALSO a DirectShow frontend. In fact, its advanced features REQUIRE WMP8+ to be installed. :-o

WMP has actually gotten LESS bloated since the god-awful 7.0 release. WMP8 that came with XP was quite nice. WMP9 is a vast improvement over 8. It's actually pretty speedy to load, and can be configured to be not too bulky on screen. Add to that the niceness of WMA VBR with higher bitrates, and WMA Lossless compression, with OPTIONAL DRM that's easy to turn off, and you've got a nice all in one player.

Winamp still kicks ass for simple playback of music, but WMP9 is much closer to perfection than anything else ever has been.

Has anyone used it yet, and seen if it is worth the upgrade from WM8?

The only bad thing about WMP (including 9) is that it uses CPU resources. (~10% last time I checked)
