Bugger that makes more important that you see before you buy.

Kooldino: You can buy the Spyder+OptiCAL bundle direct at www.colorvision.com – about $400. Here’s an informative review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/colo...monitorspyder/

Eye-One packages are available through resellers such as www.chromix.com – I think the monitor calibration package is around $1200; more details at www.i1color.com.

Your screen right troubles with the 823f are making me think more critically about Hitachi/Cornerstone shadow mask CRT’s. What could be causing the high-contrast ghosting and softened text – design limitations of that model or a malfunction particular to your unit? Have you contacted Hitachi support about this? You might also be interested in running the monitor test suite at http://www.monitorsdirect.com/toolkit/index.shtml (needs IE5).
I'll try that monitor test when I get a chance, thanks.

Geez, that's a lot of $ for a simple color calibration. It's not like I'm a pro artist here!

Well, as far as the right edge ghosting/bleeding/softening, etc...I got an 823f a year ago...but the right blur was too much...so i sent it back and got a new one within a week or so. This one is BETTER, but not perfect. So I assume it's a design flaw. Unless the place I ordered from just got a bad batch...

Seems to be a problem with larger monitors. I've really only noticed misconvergance on monitors 19 inch and up. I tend to find it damn annoying that you've got blur in one section of the screen and you can't do anything about it. Send it back and you get a blur in another part. I've noticed quite a varition between monitors when you send them back and get a replacement. Either this is becuase they're not shipping you new models just marginals that have been sent by other people or they're just plain sloppy over QA.
One of the reasons why I love lcds monitors for text work. With gaming I rarely notice the bluring that occurs.

It's not per se a design flaw, but sloppy convergence from the factory. Hence why almost no one (except Cornerstone, anyone else?) list the convergence spec.

Well IIyama do as well but I don't believe them to much. It's certainly out near the top right hand corner. I go for sloppy QA standards.
