OK I have played the game for about 20mins and i have drawn some very quick conclusions from it.

Firstly, most of the cutscenes can be skipped. Of the four or five that i encountered, I think three of them could be bypassed by pressing escape. Only cutscenes that were at the begining of a level could not.

I agree that the levels look nice and pretty Its a shame that the objects stand out like a sore thumb. I mean come on. Who has looked down the ramp at the start (before the training). Here we have a lovely world with what looks like a badly drawn gun-like-thing 'stuck' on top... Its a shame.

Loading times. I have to agree that it does take 20-30seconds to load a level (timed), but it doesn't feel to bad. Certainly quick saving only takes 2-3 seconds.

Gameplay: sucks. A few times i was walking down a corridor to all of a sudden find myself getting hurt. I looked back and forth but to no avail. It turned out that a baddie had spawned on top of me. I am all for creatures coming from behind. That is realistic. But for god sake, make them come from somewhere... a hatch in the roof or something. Making people randomly appear is great in games like Serious Sam, but in something more... 'serious' its just plain stupid.

The pistol is just plain crappy. I dont think that i have killed anyone wiht it yet. They just move too damn fast for it.

The assault file is pretty cool, at least in primary fire mode.

The grenade launcher is... well as Gurm put it... You do more damage to yourself.

I dont mind the running pace of your character. After all, he is wearing power armour.

The shitty spawning baddies, combined with naff weapons is gonna lead to a prompt uninstall.

    Shame.

I don't recall once the enemy spawning out of nowhere. You sur ehtey just aren't sneaking up on you? BTW, I'm probably half way through or so.

Perhaps... I have 5.1 speakers with the sound up. there was no-one infront of me and i was 'running' forward.

I would have thought that i would have heard them.

In reality, they would stealthily group, take cover and THEN fire. I just found it annoying. To me, gameplay is more important that anything. I will play a bit more then. But I dont have high hopes.

btw, are there any better weapons now that you are half way through?

any possibility you're having trouble with some crappy Creative drivers?

Err... nah. The new Audigy2 drivers rock.

Bah, I had to drop to medium details and 800x600 to get rid of the lag.
I mean, whenever I engaged one of those zealot type Skaarj in the open and try to circle strafe, it would pause for a sec or two while swapping.

But THAT one you can't really blame the game for. 256MB of RAM is low.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I don't, I forgot to write that I really need more ram

(this sentiment is partially expressed in my first post in this thread and also regards UT2003)

Yeah Wombat is completely right 256 is relatively low these days especially for a game with as many textures as Unreal 2
