help mobo is humming

    Those capacitors are easy to unsolder (and replace by new ones) with a standard soldering iron (30 watts) if you have a fine enough tip. Did that myself with a noname VIA-based P3-mobo.

    As for buying some new caps, either order them from www.conrad.de or www.reichelt.de or you could ask a local radio & TV technician.
    main system: P4 Northwood 2.0 @ 2.5GHz, Asus P4PE (LAN + Audio onboard), 512MB Infineon PC333 CL2.5, Sapphire/BBA Radeon 9500@9700 128MB (hardmodded), IBM 100GB ATA-100, 17" Belinea (crappy), and some other toys...ADSL (1,5mbit/s down, 256kbit/s up...sweeeeeet!)

      There a big Conrad where i live so that'll do it I am a bit clumsy with the soldering iron but i know a guy who does this for a living so that is sorted out as well
      I couldn't figure out which one of them it is though. There are about 6 in the area i have singled out. Can i wait till the one in question reveals itself or will the board take some damage then?

        Fire up MBM or something, see if any of the voltages look bad.

        My concern is that it could surge the board when it blows, and take cards or processors with it.
        Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

            Since everyone is making fun of it is humming the wrong word? Does humming imply a melody or sth? Whats the sound bees are making then?

            Will check the voltages in the BIOS next time i reboot.

                Bees buzz, but it could be a hum.

                Humming is also what you to when you make a tune with your mouth closed.

                      i found the culprit! it is the capacitor next to the first IDE slot. i've marked it with a yellow dot on the pic below.



                      it changes its noise slightly when i wiggle it a bit. i already noticed an oddity which seems to be a result of the faulty cap: my BIOS is black, i have to press any key for the actual screen to become visible also my writer on the second IDE slot isn't always recognized
