  • Windows/Unix packetsniffer

Just in case anyone is in need of one, here's a really nice unix/windows compatible packetsniffer: http://www.ethereal.com

Was trying to get docsdiag to work with my cable modem, but it seems Cox has done a really good job at blocking SNMP, but least they havn't totally crippled the modems HTML status page. They probably cut SNMP access off because all the l33t haxorz that uncapped their modems so they could share their warez on Kazaa faster.

How easy is it to install the Windows version? I had some potential use for it the other week, but it looks like you need to install a lot of extra stuff which I wasn't willing to do on the machine in question.

To the board: I second Jon's opinion - Ethereal is a really nice piece of software.
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

Really easy to install on WinXP and Win98, no problems at all. The other piece of software you need is WinPcap, which comes in a staggeringly huge 431 KILOBYTE self-install executable. And they both uninstall easily if you don't like 'em
