Every time I turn around, I see a great LCD-ish technology on the horizon...here's the latest and greatest...

I'm just waiting for one with good response times.

      I don't like LCDs...

Both Hitachi & NEC have LCD's with a 16ms response time.
The general feel from those people who own them is that we are at last at a response time low enough to do everything on an LCD - including gaming.
In fact I am so convinced with the reviews out there that I'm about to order one of the Hitachi ones.
Well, once retailers get more stock, nowhere can get them at the moment for another week or so, demand has literally stripped Hitachi of any spare stock anywhere.
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.

Too bad they havn't been able to make an LED display that can compete with CRT's or LCD's.

let us know what you think when you get it. I wouldn't mind a new LCD monitor.

I think thats 17 inchers and below. The 18 inch models have no response time under the spec sheet while the 19 inchers have a 25ms response.

True, true - but I think I could swing it if they replaced the 19" and 17" CRTs I have been allowed to keep in the sitting room!

Yup, sorry, should have said that was for 17" displays.
I find that the 18"+ panels are still just that little bit too expensive for my liking.
The 17" Hitachi is going to come in at around £375 which although a lot more than a CRT isn't too bad I guess.

I'm waiting for OLED technology. That seems very promising.

In the Anand review of such a unit it was mentioned that this still isn't the case.

And how are the most recent LCDs doing on colour depth now?

I'm really only going by what owners say.
Sure I put some weight behind "review" sites but I feel those people who actually own the said unit can give a far better reflection on the true state of affairs.
Numerous owners of the Hitachi over at www.overclockers.co.uk and the only game they seem to have problems with is Quake3.
Not becasue of it's speed as games like UT2, etc are all fine - just something about Quake3.

Anyway, hopefully retailers should have some stock at the beginning of next week and then I may well pick one up, see for myself.
