BTW, the Epson 830 should be a 6 color printer.

Given that Epson has a black and color cartridge, you have 5 colors in that color cartridge.

If you use up any of those colors, the whole cartrige needs replacement.

Not good in my book, especially with Epsons roughly 40% higher priced inks...

        Why

Deskjet 960c here I like it.
One nice feature you send it a print job and it switches itself on. Unfortunatley they also forgot to give it auto switch off feature so you have to remember to turn it off.

All have individual ink tanks and have the lowest cost per page due to considerably cheaper ink tanks.

With Epson the printhead is built into the printer (if it dies, time for a new printer). With HP and Lexmark it is built into the cartridge (making the cartridge rediculously expensive) (take note that the new series of HP printers uses a cartridge that has half the ink but costs the same).

Canon simply uses a removable printhead that is designed, like Epson, for the life of the printer, but can be replaced if need be.
You should check up on things. My d135, for example, has completely separate print heads.

Well the individual catridges for the Canon cost around £7.00 each so to replace all three colours would cost £21.00 which is about the same as the Epson Colour catridge. I'm not sure of the quantaties of ink in each so the Canon could still be cheaper but I doubt it would be by much. Quality wise I can't see a 4 colour Canon beating a 6 colour Epson on photo printing. Guess it really depends on what you use if for mostly as to which would be better.

I can remember having fun cleaning out Epson print heads. In the end the printer was worth a quid and ink refills worth loads more than the printer.

HAHA. Canon's print head expires more often than you change the ink, from what I hear. And it costs as much to replace as an entire printer.

Not the case in my experience.

Note that my experience with the Canon S520, S630, and S800 is firsthand...

The S600 and S750 are pretty much the same thing as the S520/S630...

                            **UPDATE**

                            The Epson went downhill rapidly.
I needed to clean the pront heads every other day - they just kept getting blocked.

I managed to do a straight swap with the HP7350 and found it vastly superiour in just about every aspect.

My only gripe is that it doesn't come with a black-only cart. out of the box. And when you do buy one, you cant mount all three carts. at the same time.

                            Other than that its superb.
I wont be recommending the 830U

                            Just to let you know!

seems to match my experience with epson.. works fine for a bit, then the heads starts clogging
I do not regret my HP's one bit.. owned an 882C and now a 990CXI, they work great still
