  • Dualhead virgin, what should I know

    Millennium + G400 independant.

Upon preliminary check, some powerdesk features (pixeltouch) work only on primary head and some (center window) plainly don't.

Any utilites for moving windows arround and other nifty features.

What do you think about Ultramon?

        Is great.
Very convenient. A must-have for all dualhead users.

Now you need some dual head wallpapers!!

Well, one thing to know is that it WILL create ... wrinkles ... in the relationship. I mean, one partner will always be wondering about the other one...

Plus, make SURE to use protection.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

Gurm: You made me laugh here.

I was kind of expecting from you (a strong) opinion on Ultramon: Evil or good.

OK, installed Ultramon, seems decent (stability wise) so far, very useful.

Is it possible to install eDualhead on this config (web Browser features)

                Here are the glitches:

Unreal tournament won't start on full screen on primary monitor, but in Window instead.

AutoCAD 2000 3D acceleration (wopengl.hdi) doesn't work on primary monitor.

BTW 3D Studio MAX 3.1 is smoow in OpenGL, works on both screens.

Needless to say G400 is primary, Millennium is secondary.

Installed 5.82 drivers for Windows 2000 that support range from Millennium to G550.

Unreal starts on primary screen (G400) while the millennium remains visible, and show it's portion of desktop.

AutoCAD, Maya and 3D StudioMAX work both on primary and secondary screen with hardware acceleration.

Millennium is of course slow compared to G400, but it works.

                  Millennium supports hardware texturing @_@.

Video is working in hardware overlay on G400 now, it doesn't work on Millennium.

Pixel touch works on both screens.

                  Remaining glitches:

Icon colur depth falls back to 256 colour on taskbar windows.

When I choose Multidisplay Controls in Powerdesk Powerdesk gives error message and terminates.

Do you think Special Dualhead support for G400/G450 has anything to with this?
I installed and removed many drivers and reaplied SP3 and reinstalled IE6 in the process (the requirement for latter two were result of PEBCAK). Do you think reinstall of Windows would fix this?

OK, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers without installing support for G400/450 dualhead under windows 2000.

                    still same errors.

256bit colour fallback is connected to different desktop colour depths.

When I set both desktops to 16-bit colour, icons are in high colour.

                      Not enough VRAM I think.

Update: not installing support for Matrox G400/G450 dualhead for Windows2000 results in major 3D application problems:

                          3D Studio MAX won't start
Maya returns error about OpenGL 1.0 instead of 1.1 and doesn't start as well.

                          I reinstalled support for G400 win2k dualhead.

I'll see what Haig says whenn he reopens forums today.

                          Still remaining glitches:
                          - 256 colour icons
                          - Powerdesk terminates when selecting Multi-Display Controls from it's menu with following error dialog:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (title)

                          Runtime Error!

                          Program C:\WINNT\System32\PDesk\PDesk.exe

                          abnormal program termination
