You're joking, right? I thought Microsoft got rid of Clippy with the advent of Office XP?

Nope, they didn't get rid of him. He's still installed and active with a default installation. That's why I never do a default installation. I don't know what all the fuss is about since he's so easy to remove completely.

          hehe
I think it's worth installing to avoid the 'you must shut down all office before you can reboot' and to gain another inch of taskbar space

Yeah, I'm sick and damn tired of "you have an open office application. no shutdown for you!"

As for clippy, go to add/remove programs, and completely uninstall office assistant. Easy enough.

P.S. This beta is MUCH better than beta1. Beta1 was pretty, but did HORRIBLE things to your system and couldn't ever be uninstalled. EEK!

Gurm, some email programs warn you about the anna kournikova and make make you do a few steps do open the file anyway. This will scare Joe User for good.

Aye it does. The system tray app is the thing that controls the amial notification program - aka the cool transparent email alert that pops up. It also shows various other warnings, like Exchange server messages and various netowkr warnings if your Active Directory is setup to do that.

As for the office cliphead thing. I just did a standard upgrade and it didn't install, but I had it disabled in my old version. Don't know if I mentioned this before, but the installer is very fast and efficient. M$ finally has a properly working installer ... after what, 20 years. I think it took less time for the Office 2003 B2 installer to uninstall Office XP and install Office 2003, than it took me to install Office XP from scratch.

                  LOL.

Actually it's easy to have the taskbar entry remove when minimized.

Right clicking the system tray icon allows you to hide it from the taskbar. In OfficeXP, if you minimised outlook to the system tray you still got popups when it checked for mail - not any more

Those of you on the IEP or on the Technical Beta better re-read your MLAB and double check the EULA. Last I checked bragging about being on a beta is kinda a no-no.

Oh, poo. We're not bragging. And we're not discussing it in DETAIL. Saying "yeah it's cool, they fixed a lot of bugs" isn't forbidden.

What he said. I don't think M$ would care if a few people said their product was actully pretty cool and worth upgrading to when the final hits. It's not like we're posting the source code or anything.

                            *shrug*

Last time i looked it was against NDA to even acknowledge being on a specific beta, and to discuss anything related to the product that is not public knowledge.

Jammrock - in your case MS could care because you are breaking the companies NDA for the product. Its the sort of thing that makes them nervous about product leaks and being able to trust certain companies.

Gurm - Thats not forbidden... again, refer to your MLAB for more info on the NDA you are under for it...

anyways... i agree... it is looking very good compared to how it used to...

Actually I just looked at my kit, and there's nothing about not talking, except that any technical discussion of bugs or new features should be confined to the newsgroups and betaplace channels.
