    Actually, that part's wrong, unfortunately. Having a 64-bit processor and 64-bit application won't help you with a 32-bit OS sitting in between.

    Although, now that I think of it, if MS doesn't get a 64-bit version out for AMD, they could lose even <B>more</B> business to Opteron/Linux farms.

      And if you want to talk about legacy, that's all x86-64 is, more legacy.

      Frankly, the x86 instruction methodolgy sucks these days. Processors like the Athlon devote their first three or so pipe stages just to decoding x86 into something that a real architecture can handle.

      In this regard, IA-64 is much better. It really is time to leave x86 behind.

        DGhost, sorry for the AMD press release - The MS stuff is telling though, I think.

        But we all don't know what's going on inside MS, so we'll have to wait and see.

          Its codename is Anvil (get it? hammer - anvil. hehe ), Mike Magee says it's due April 8th, Andreas Stiller says 21st. Whatever, Anyone up for a bet that it'll come? I say yes.
