Just came across this the other day.
Apparently a few independent artists/developers noticed that Sierra, for better or worse, seems to have abandoned the graphical adventure genre forever.
A couple of their games got the royal remake treatment before this happened... notably Quest For Glory 1 (Hero's Quest) and one of the Leisure Suit Larry games.
However, their best work has always been the QFG series and the King's Quest series... some of which are sorely lacking. A remake of King's Quest 1 was done... boosting it from 16 colors to... 16 colors out of a palette of 256. Great, Sierra. Bleh.
Enter the Anonymous Developers.
Forming a group called "Tierra Entertainment", they have single-handedly managed to resurrect these great games. Working under the cover of anonymity (it IS illegal to decompile games, even OLD ABANDONED ones, under the DMCA) they have rebuilt King's Quest 1 from the ground up. Full color, DirectX compatible, with speech and digital audio. Excellent artwork.
King's Quest 2 has been redone as well. With new quests and puzzles, even! (KQ2 never really made much sense, it had unicorns and the batmobile on the same screen...)
Their current project? Quest for Glory 2 - the game most in need of an update. Since you can play QFG all the way through, from game 1 to game 5, with the same character... game 2 was a bit of an anomaly since the others are all in full color and run on newer machines (albeit with a bit of help) but game 2 was in 4-color CGA regardless. Bleh.
And it's all FREE.

Nevertheless, it is one of my favorites in the QFG series, so I hope the remake will do it justice.
