Hey, I thought I'd add a game to the list of encouraging turns in the right direction. For those who like the empire building/4x type games (ie. Civ/2/3, MoO/2/3), and those who were in particular thoroughly dissapointed by MoO3 (who wasn't?), check out http://www.galciv.com. It's the sleeper game of the year for sure. I've got a few quibbles with it still, but the developers have promised to keep offering updates for a year to come (real updates, not just patches).

Other than that, since I recently kicked my EQ habit, I've been big into the abandonware and classic emulation thing as well. Been playing through a bunch of old classics that I either never got to play the first time around or somehow never get tired of replaying (FF3 for SNES anyone?).

Also been playing HOMM4 lately, which, despite the general opinion of most of the M&M community, I think is a great game. I've also started replaying Tiberian Sun again since I have yet to beat it (keep getting bored of it, although I do think it is a good game, some of the later missions are just bloody long).

I also wish I could get FF7 to behave itself under Win2000. It keeps crashing about 10 seconds after I enter combat (unless I use the software renderer, blech).

Diablo2's problem was that it suffered from outrageous mudflation. It was too easy to get absolutely crazy gear. They had lots of neat idea's, but the scarcity of stuff in the original and the 2 enchantment limit on items was what really made the game. EQ also has a mudflation problem (which is part of the reason I've stopped playing, but I won't get into that here).

Anyway, so theres my random comments in my first post here for what, 3 or 4 months, hehe.

Finally someone who feels the same way about Diablo and Diablo II! I though I was alone.

          Hey AZ,

I know what you mean about Diablo and Diablo 2. When Diablo came out I was manic player playing on a local network and Battle.Net. When Diablo 2 came out I gave it a try and found myself throughly bored and uninterested. I think there were a number of factors that bored me entirely :

          1. The Single Player was horrible. The constant have to find a teleport pad so I don't have to clear this area made the SP experience very bad imho.

          2. As a sequel it lacks that newness that Diablo brought to the table when it was released. I really hate playing games when all I can think is "Isn't this like the last version, with better graphics?"

What do you guys think of Freedom Force and/or Jagged Alliance 2? I haven't got around to playing much of either yet, but the former seems to be very original, and the latter just pulls you in.
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

JA 2 is great. Just don't touch JA 2: Unfinished Business. It's horrible. There should be a JA2 Gold in the Bargain bin now, containing both JA2 and JA2:UB.

I think the main problems with Diablo 2 were graphics and sound. Although the graphics looked better, I think they had less style, and looked less crisp. The sound and music was just not as good and clear as those from Diablo 1 (The original Tristram theme must be one of the most beautiful pieces of game music ever).

Gurm, if I had a copy of XP lieing around I'd be more than willing to give it a shot, as I don't have one though, I'll just have to make do. I'll try it if I can lay my hands on a copy though.
