I have hdtach and my drive scores decently. It bursts at >80 MB/s (that's the limit that hdtach shows). Is there any utility that will accurately show the actual burst rate?

Since burst that are that fast come from the buffer, they should be as fast as the interface you're using. Not that it matters much anyway

my previous 40 GB Maxtor which used to burst at 57 in the KT7 gets over 80 here. I was just curious to see how close to the theoretical limit it does get

Just open the HDTach folder and look at the log.
