  • Video cable

I want to use my G400 to playback DVD over the TV into the other room.

I've tried setting-up a cable in this way:
Video Out from the G400 bundled cable
    to
    RCA cable (1 meter)
    to
    SCART adapter
    to
    SCART cable (6 meters)
    to
    TV's SCART in

I'm not sure if it's a problem in the cable, but when the PC sends lot of datas (images with a lot of movement) the TV loose some frames.

So, I'd like to try with a simpler cable set up. What can I do to use, for example, a normal antenna's cable?
Or, is there a better solution?

Eh, losing frames over the cable? I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Maybe the computer's not fast enough to decode the DVD in busy scenes and is stuttering? Oh, and you shouldn't use the RCA output if your TV supports scart. Here's the pinout:

The PC has no problems with DVD playng: the DVD on the monitor is smooth and has no stuttering even if I'm doing something else while the video is playing.
      It's strange, I know. O_o

Is the TV NTSC or PAL? How about the movie? Over on the offical Matrox tech support forums PAL TV-out stuttering shows up often.

It's a PAL movie over a PAL TV.
If PAL TV-Out stuttering is a "standard" for Matrox cards...well, Matrox has found a way to loose another customer.

You might want to check your CPU usage while playing the DVD. That's wierd that it only does it on busy scenes, from what I've read the problem most other people had was pretty much a steady skip, not just in certain parts of a movie. You really ought to go check out the official Matrox tech support forums anyway, I'm sure they'd be more able to help you.

I tend to agree with Jon here, loosing frames over a cable is odd... Could it be in the dvd player settings ? If I remember correctly, the G400 has no video overlay on the second display. How is the card configured to display the movie (dvdmax, clone, zoom, ... ) ?

You could try setting you TV as primary monitor (there is a check-box in the general setttings "make this monitor my primary").

If your TV supports the input of NTSC signals (several models in Europe support this feature), you coud try to send NTSC with you Matrox. However, as it already is a PAL movie, I doubt you'll win much...
(I know my digital camera shows a better image when I set it to send NTSC to my PAL TV)
