well, had it for 3 days and it broke, check the following screenshots (some games and programs suffer more then others, 3D mark 2001 doesnt suffer at all and just plays fine, (so do the first three tests of 3D mark03 (CPU test 1&2 do suffer from a lot of checkerboard effect though))

What brand is it? Check out its memory/core clock speeds. Some Powercolor 9700 non-pros were shipped with overclocked bios and they showed artifacts at "default" speeds. You may also have got a returned card with an overclocked bios (it´s really easy to change clock speeds with R9x00 bios with radedit).
If you have default R9500 pro speeds, return it, you have a defective card - most likely bad memory. That´s exactly the same artifacts my R9700 np does if I try to get the memory past 290 Mhz.

This is quite clearly a hardware defect indicating bad pipelines and ram.
I have seen lots of these errors with users in our german ATI forum that had modded their R9500 non-Pro to 9700s. For about 50% it works, the other half seems to get that nasty screen corruption at least once pixelshader intensive apps are used.
You're definitely sure that the card you got was untouched? (wouldn't be the first case of a shop selling defective/wrongly packged hardware)
