These two are not correct. The 2800+ runs at 2083MHz and the 3000+ at 2167MHz.

I'd also like to point out that they differ on the actual clock speeds of the higher-end Athlons - e.g. they say the 3000+ runs at 2167MHz, and that the 2800+ is a 2250MHz T-bred.
This is correct, AMD made a 2,25GHz T-bred that hardly made it to retailers at all.

sorry........... didn't double check the specs when i did the old cut and paste.

Hm, ok got my internet back after a few days. I was about to post this on a sep. thread, but since it`s already started...

First off, alot of TBred B`s seem to be 'downgraded'. IE, my 2100+ is (apparently) downgraded from 2800+. Here are two links on the subject:

        X-Bit labs: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...319192135.html

And the script used for checking: http://mp3.zonebg.com/cpu/cpu.php

So, i was a bit curious and i checked it. First, i set it on 145 FSB, no prob. Then, 150FSB and no POST. The D-Bracket helped me identify that the problem was with the vid card (AGP too much out of spec and the 5/1 divider hasnt kicked in). I set the FSB to 166, booted, got into Windows, but 3DSMAX kept crashing to Desktop. Upped the voltage to 1.65 and its rock solid. Got up to 170 FSB, and that is the max i could get. At 173-175 3DSMAX is crashing to desktop @ 1.7V, and 177 is again causing the no POST `cause of the vid card.

So i`m waitng for MSI to possibly release a BIOS that would allow using higher voltages for the CPU (1.7v is max ATM) and i`ll need to unlock the CPU to up the multiplier cause the FSB wont get any higher than 166/170 because of the AGP out of spec).

Is the wire trick on the CPU gonna allow using the higher multipliers too? I read on XBitLabs that it`ll only allow 5-12.5X multipliers... If so, will i have to 'play' with the L1/L3 bridges?

that is really interesting news, do you have any idea how many of the 2100+ 'downgrades' are supposed to be selling on the streets?i would like to buy one but not if i am likely only to get a normal 2100+.
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

Well, according to a number of users posting on different forums (OCAU and others), A LOT of TBred B`s are 'downgraded'. There were discussions on whether this was done by AMD because of high demand for the mid range CPUs (1700+ to 2200+) and that these chips are full-blown 2800`s, only remarked, or because of slightly lower quality of the silicon and those chips wouldnt run stable on default voltage. From my experience, its seems the latter. Ie, i was able to get to 2700+/2800+ with only a 0.5 increase in voltage. It would boot at default voltage, but it wouldnt be stable.

Here are the #s on my chip, check them out on your would-be next chip.

            AXDA2100DUT3C
            AIUHB0305UPJW
            9567777280267

The bold numbers appear to indicate the speed the CPU was downgraded from... IE if those numbers are higher than the 2 following 'AXDA', the chip is downgraded.

Armed with this info, I went to a computer fair at the weekend, intending to peruse the CPUs on show and select one that had been heavily downgraded.

Unfortunately it was the worst show ever. I actually asked for and got my entrance money back. There was plenty of competition for blank media, paper & inkjet refills, but only 1 guy selling CPUs, and his prices sucked.

              Still looking...

Fairs tend to be crap for stuff like recent CPUs - if you want a really really cheap Duron 1000, or some RAM, or as you say blank media etc, fine. Otherwise stick with the online people (a fair few do give at least the "AXDA2100DUT3C" bit of the core number).

At least fairs lull you into a false sense of security as you look around ("I'm not a geek after all - look at these guys" ). But then you realise that you're at a computer fair...

They are generally ok - the last one I went to was a massive one in Nottingham at Harvey Hadden Stadium. This one was an exceptionally poor one at Pride Park Stadium (Derby for non-footie fans).

Nope. AMD cut prices. 2500+ is indeed the sweet spot pricewise and non-OCed. If you feel like OCing, then it's up to your luck, but the 2200 should do OK if you can find a B stepping -or go for the 2400 which is surely the new chip but the 2500 is only sth like 20€ more expensive....

well just got a 2400+ the other day (from what looks like a 2800 batch).

Running at an apparent 2700+ with stock voltage and no change in the multiplier yet.

                        FSB is at 141

The price of the 2400+ keeps sliding...my clicking finger is getting twitchy over the BUY button
@Kurt - I haven't paid close attention to CPU prices before the last couple of weeks; when was the price cut and has it filtered through yet? I guessing that Komplett with their £86 price were the first to implement the new prices, with everyone else being somewhat slower.

Half of my suppliers have updated their prices, the other half not yet. Next week everyone should be up to date.

If you're a customer you should be able to find the new prices as of now, looking around a bit.
