Those high speed CDROM drives are scary... I've never once heard of a HD fragging a disk, but that's not unheard of for higher speed CD drives.

I am going for new puter parts in about 4 weeks.
Time to dump the old P3-450 and Matrox Marvel G400. Long long long..overdue!
I have decided on the Canterwood.
Gigabyte:
GA-8KNXP
DDR400 Ram
( I was was about to go for the RDRAM< but backed away when I learned about the DDR400 being on the high performance range), and also computer parts retailers going with the DDR and still not going with Rambus.
P4-2.66 GIGHZ CPU.
and the Radeon 9700 Pro.
---------
See the tests and benchmarks on www.tomshardware.com , and other performance test sites.
------------
My daughter and wife can use my Matrox Marvel G400 for a while longer, and wil pul the G200 Mystique I have in their old Celeron 300.
------------
by the way, stil using Windows 98, still see no reason to move to WinXP pro. Unless I hear a good argument for it.
-----------------
I play games, and also was doing some video transfer from video cam.
---------
Daughter and Wife, games, shcool work, projects.
I any case, this sytem looks just like what I need, the flight sims need the horepower. Drool, drool, (sorry matrox did not keep up with the gaming market, but I tried looking for the proof Matrox could keep up, but the benchmarks only come half-way).

If I put WinXP in and it crahses, like Win98 does, it would all be for not. Not to mention a copy of WinXP (pro) for eaach computer ( 2 computer upgrades) That's damned expenisive. Even looked into the so called WinXP Family pak, licensing for 2 home computers. I want to move to WinXP, but if it crashes,...I'll be pissed...
If it runs very good, then no complaints..
I just have not heard any real moving arguements telling me WinXP is wonderful.------------------

Main reason for moving to XP is for the driver support. Not much gets written for 9x these days.
