Help please - stubborn scanner

    try conecting it through a USB hub
    Had to dot that with a scanner on another motherboard I had, when I switched Mobos the problem when away
    If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

      Tried the hub thing as well - no go.

      No time to screw around anymore. Killed 3 year old W2K installation and started from scratch - at least now the damn scanner is working again - !@#$!@$%!#$@^*^&*!!!!!

      Why my Ghost image was not able to resurrect the scanner is beyond me - something on the machine must have changed without my knowledge negating its usefulness.

      Slowly re-installing all sw again - its gonna take days

          OK - so I have this SOB licked and running with all the sw again - 2 days later.

          Is there any reason why Taskmonitor would sudenly be reporting the need to grab about 2% worth of a P4 horsepower to run a service called "Still Image device monitor" via the stisvc.exe?.

          I am convinced that this is where things have gone wrong, because as soon as this service is stopped, the scanner has an aneurysm once again.

            Funny you mentioned Ghost. I had the same problem with Nortons Antivirus that screwed up. So I went back to my last back up and it still didn't work.

              You could have tried to install an add-on USB 2.0 card. I know SINXP1394 comes with alot of USB interfaces but almost all of them are connected to the same chipset.

                I have a few of those around in the office and have tried them. Didnt work either, and the PCI bus is anyway driven off the 655 chip too.

                Over the last 3 years with this particular machine Ghost has always done the trick when screwups happened - and that includes me running NIS2003 and ECDC5 - both of wich is rumoured here and elsewhere to be bastards - This is the first time that Ghost could not do its thing and I am still not sure that I am personally completely blameless in the saga - I like to think so though.
