  • Win2K3 Server good enough to trust?

I see lots of good reviews, particularly wrt security.

Has MS finally released a product good enough to trust a small-ish web-server app to, or is it still a case of wait till SP1?

Wait till SP1 as with any MS OS.

Is that just preconceptions? I mean, XP was pretty stable at release. Sure loads of patches and plugs have been released since, but shirley they now have the benefit of hindsight?

It is kinda Windows 2000 Server SP3.5 crossed with XP Pro SP1.5 so it should be OK imo.

Sme thing as they said with Win ME!

It is kind of preconceived wisdom. But it has always worked for me in the past, and the other benefit of course is that it allows plenty of time for you to read others' views first. Why not let them be the guinea pigs? Also time should give you a better idea of what benefits it is really going to give you over any other server OS.

As far as I know, the final is out.

I've been running a post-RC2 build for a several weeks now, and it's been fabulous. It's only gone down for power outages so far (need another UPS). I have the release version CD sitting here, but haven't gotten around to upgrading yet. No reason to, actually. At least until my current version expires in a year...

I am surprised at how balanced the poll is so far. Normally I would have expected peeps here to be far more against giving it a go at release...maybe MS are improving?

This was the first time I've used a pre-release version of an MS OS without any problems. Definitely improving.

Actually in my history of running beta Microsoft OSes... The Beta versions almost always ran faster and more stable then the release version. At least that is what it looked like from win95 beta, win98 beta, winNT 3.51 and winNT 4. I would not be surprised if this trend continues
