  • The PIT's got himself a new toy

Fujifilm Finepix S304. Looks nice and cute but what really caught my eye was that 6x optical zoom.
My poor mother has been the first victim. She looks really bad. Even on the low res it's still better than my old Kodak DX3215.
Hopefully now I won't have to spend so much time trying creep up on the wild life just zoom and away I go.

Well had a nice trip to Manifold today so had it's first try out. Not bad nice to be able to take a close up of Thors cave without having to climb up to it.
Plenty of other controls to play with yet as well.

Another nice thing is that the batteries last longer. On old my camera they'd be in charger by now.

Nice! Have you seen that Dixons et al are currently selling the F601 for £320!!! Thats £30 less than I paid for my F401Z just 7 months ago.

What do you make of the new memory format?

Breezer has a s304 as well, a very good camera for the photo iliterate.

After a bit of getting used to (automatic settings is useless) this produces very good photos, much better than my old film camera.

With a 128mb card you can store over 100 pictures which ain't bad at all.

At top resolution you can get a very good image on an a3 printer (hp8550). I have been printing pictures of Freddie my 8 month old son at work (for testing purposes of course).

The optical zoom is very good and your right the batteries seem to last for ever.

Get a mains adaptor and it doubles up as a web cam as well.

I have Sanyo 1850 mAh and Ansmann 2000 mAh accus (the ansmann are at least twice as good!), and just recently got myself a good "intelligent" charger (AccuPower AP 2010 - looks and feels cheap, but is great!), and I must say it makes a world of a difference what charger you use.

Got to admit I'm being lazy at the moment an dusing Auto mode. I've noticed one or two errors so I think manuel mode is coming next time out.
One thing I hate is taking photos with loads of people around. They always staring at you.

I've got one of these puppies- small, fits in your pocket - very discrete.
It's great for those occasions were you don't feel like lugging a camera around.
                Pictures are pretty decent also.

Yes, that is true... I have a Nikon D100

                    with a 24-85mm f/2.8-4 lens.
Even with this small lens, people are looking as if you are a press-photographer; taking out an 80-200 f/2.8 is even worse... I don't use that lens much, as it really requires the use of a tripod (too much vibration); now I intend to buy some VR-type zoom (vibration reduction) lens for my next trip.

Then interesting aspect though is that not that many people have seen digital reflex-camera's from up close and other photographers start making conversation. It even got me a discount in a photo-store in Venice, as the photographer hadn't seen one up close, and I provided him with a hands-on experience.

Of course with a zoom lense you can get poeple unawares.

Yeah I hate that...I like to take these 3D pics with my SLR and/or my digital...so I'm out in the middle of a wide open space and instead of the usual public oblivian, the public takes interest and gets in my photos ruining them!!! why a camera makes such a fuss with people I don't know...wish it wouldn't though

Come to NYC and take some pictures. People won't even notice. If they do, they'll assume you're either a tourist or a photographer and leave you alone.

Also how come the sun always goes in when you about to make a shot. So what was bright and wonderful showing a nice varation of contrasts becomes rather dull.

well...you can always use a flash lamp...
or some filters, depends what you want to achieve (although I don't know if your camera can use them...I even don't know if they work as they should in digital camera...probably at least not all...)
