  • You Should Not See Me Program in XP?

Subject says most of it. Sometimes when I shut down XP, I will see a end task option of a program called "You Should Not See Me" as everything is shutting down. It only comes up for a split second. I am going to reformat anyway as I have finally run all tests on my system and can say it is good to go (fixed those system beeps, woohoo), but I was just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this in XP or any other OS.

It's a BIOS virus, if you reinstall you computer will ruined.

Ok... maybe not. I've seen it occasionaly before my XP partition ate itself (another seperate story,) mainly after installing new video drivers.

      I found something, but you'll need a translator: http://www.ikushimo.com/past/45.html

      Are you running McAfee?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I see it all the time really. I've seen it on my laptop too, which never is on the internet (I just type and print on it). I mean I don't think it's a virus or anything, I think it's something in XP or something in the NT OS's (I could have swore I saw it on NT 4 once. I've never seen it in any 9x version). Is Bill Gates just trying to mess with our heads?

EDIT: Dang, you guys are quick. No, I don't run any virus scan programs. I have run Zone Alarm on my main machine (will have to until I get a router), but it shows up after fresh installs of Windows before I install other programs. And I have never run any virus scan programs or any kind of security programs on my laptop since it never is on the net.

I've seen this with several times with install programmes and it pops up when you need to reboot. Perhaps an install program has got a bit bollocked and left something behind.

Ah, so it has something to do with installers then, maybe specifically installers and NT? Well, that answers a few questions I guess. I wasn't really worried about it, just curious. Heh, funny that they call it "You Should Not See Me" and you actually see it...

Yeah it's probably related to installation programs. I very rarely see it, but I remember seeing it mostly when I do a fresh install and start installing stuff.

The ONLY time I see that message is after I have installed Norton Anti-Virus.

Upon a reinstallation of Windows, I apply all updates, then load drivers, then load all of the M$ Crap I run, Then I install all 3rd Party Appz, THEN I install Norton.

I used to install Norton right off the bat and would see those errors all the time when installing drivers and some software.

It only pops up once in a great while and then only after a machine has had something go "bad wrong" with it.

I just think it's funny that they call it "Should Not See Me" when you actually see it. I mean if it was a virus, it would be a good prank, hehe.

yes its defintely part of install shield, I have seen it in via and ATI drivers installs...

And even once or twice with my own installers..

Its just part of the restart process(well something is not *quite* right)...but if you keep seeing it on every reboot then you have fuxored installation that can't complete..And you may have to do a bit of work cleaning up your registry

ATi drivers installation. Usually appears before the first reboot. maybe there's another program (like Norton) interfering?

I saw it for the first time and many times later when installing the drivers for the 9700pro, just before I reboot after the installation

I did not have any antivirus programs at that time, pretty scary if you ask me as it just flashes so quickly and leaves you thinking you're imagining things
