I love my Linksys router & its integrated NAT & I never, repeat: never, get any of those annoying messages.
You may not recieve those messages Doc, but you can't say it doesn't have issues (no ICQ direct transfers etc).

In actuality most that have a router cannot get this simple feature to function or at best it's sporatic

I'd like to see everyone get that nit noid sus'd out. Who wants to start?

I'm having fun lately because when my friend has her software firewall up, and I've got my Linksys router plugged in, I can't send files to her via AOL.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I have zero problems with ICQ or AIM file transfers through my router. Unless the receiver has a firewall/router that isn't properly configured; then it doesn't work at all.

Apples and oranges. NAT is no firewall.
