I said you can fool yourself with it
Though I'd say it's quite good. As for joystick play, I have to reinstall it and see... now where on earth did I put that CD

edit: yes, no joystick for Freelancer

Well, I was too busy playing the game last night (re-learning take-off/landing techniques etc to give fiddling with settings much time, but I didn't seem to be able to switch into 3x1024x768 or 3072x768 for some reason - the resolution simply wouldn't switch over despite being listed. Will invetigate further tonight... and try to find whatever .ini file the game uses.

Oh, and by the way all of this is on an Athlon 2000+, 512 megs of RAM (it seems to like lots of RAM, and so I might add in another 128 that I have lying around somewhere).

I will try playing around with all the landscape/model/detail settings tonight.

GNEP, u r my hero. I've been dying for someone to relate stuff like this on IL2 FB to us for months!

I am hoping that my gaming experience as it is currently (not good) is mainly because of running on a PIII-700 (o/c 840).

You should still be able to run IL2FB on a PIII-700 (it's minimum spec iirc), but not very well. Certainly a Parhelia in that instance won't be the limiting factor

                  Right.

Report time on further experiments with IL2FB.

Runs fine and dandy with surround at 3x1024x768 (multi viewport rendering). Very smooth playing. Haven't measured FPS or anything, but I'd guess a fairly constant mid to high 20's (which is enough I find for flight sims). Doesn't seem to drop in dogfights or when strafing ground targets. I've got most of the other quality settings at medium to high levels (not the top, as it starts to struggle a bit then). I much prefer to having it running in surround (and multiviewport is a definite yes as you get front view and proper side views out over your wings) than to restrict it to 1 screen and increase the detail levels.

Basically, the Parhelia is an excellent card for this game, if mainly because of the surround. It's just unfortunate about the FAA not working properly, as that would have made it perfect. (If it worked then I would probably drop to 3x800x600 and bump up the other settings).
