  • ~ file ?????

Just noticed that there is a ~ file in my WIMNT directory.

Checked it out with notepad full of rubbish but I did notice that it had a few of my email contacts in there, anyone any idea what it is.

Virus checkers up to date and current scan fine so far.

Just a bit concerned as some of my contacts from my address book are in it. Deleted it now so no way of providing anymore info, not sure if it will appear again on restart, PC beens on for 3 days at the moment and can't restart as it is busy.

might be a temp file or a regurgitated file fragment

I saw this recently on a co-worker of mine's PC when we tried to import mail into Outlook Express 6.0 Its a by-product of a failure. At least that's what happened to us. We tried 2 times, and we found 2 ~ files on his HDD. One was on his desktop and the other was in his root drive C:\

This was on a Windows 2000 Pro machine.

And yes we deep six'd em both and are none the worse off.
