Yeah, I was just about to point that out. I thought the "disk/disc" thing was the initial purpose of this thread.

But with all the problems Windows has, this should be the least of their worries.

Oh, I always thought that disk/disc was a US/UK thing. Can someone from the US confirm/deny that they use "disc"?

          And yes, please shoot Microsoft.

          Twice.

Sorry, I always use Disk, Not Disc. It just doesn't look right.

I've always used Disk and Disc interchangeably as well, considering if you rip open a diskette what does it look like? A flat round object

As far as DVD goes, I agree, it should be Digital Versatile Disc/Disk. Since it is no longer used for only Video. Or perhaps that's only what you call Playstation 2 and PC games that use DVD's. And something like Lethal Weapon would be called Digital Video Disk/Disc, and in that case, WindowsXP does not support it.

I guess MiniDisc is written with c because of compact disc - they didn't want it to be associated with diskettes, but with the leading digital music medium.

Minidisc Sony have patents and spelt it that way on them. Ditto Compact Disc.

As for the DVD mess; I blame the large company that claims to have helped merge the two separate standards into one back at the very beginning so that everything would be well in DVD land and there would never be any standards conflicts...
