    Win2K SP2 if I have a choice, but also XP for some betas and once I get an SMP/HT system. I won't like it, but I'll live with it

                  ....Win 3.1 at work it's a pain but we don't really use the computer that much, except for playing Solitaire on rainy days.

                    I run Win XP Pro and Gentoo Linux on my machine at home. Win XP Pro is usually run most of the time since I am still much the gamer. However I would prefer to be using Gentoo full time. At work it is Win2K and Gentoo on my laptop to host my xterm windows

                        Yup the poll results are like I expected - split between XP and 2000, with a few more going to XP. Anyway I use Win2K Pro SP2 on my main machine and my game server. My old games PC runs Win95.

                          That's interesting to see, as the poll is right now, it is;

                          Windows XP
                          Windows 2000
                          Linux
                          Win9x

                          It's interesting that now more people are using linux than Win9x OS's.

                          I myself use Debian (unstable) as my work OS and use Windows XP for all my game playing needs. I would probably use Linux for more gaming if Matrox would ever release decent linux drivers for the Parhelia....

                            Currently, I have winxp/mandrake on my old machine...now relegated to files server and general processing slave.

                            I got a new machine which I have installed winxp on and will install linux as well....but GTA:VC as me side tracked at the moment. I normally use linux more but recently windows games have "forced" me to use windows more( if I could get GTAVC runnning on linux I would be set)

                            I have been hearing good things about gentoo, so I will download and install that soon....

                              Two pieces of advice from a gentoo user:

                              1) Patience! Compiling takes a lot of time initially, but after you have all the software you need maintaining the system is a dream. Also once you have it all you can just let it upgrade in the background.

                              2) If something does not work, curse it, search the forums, and try again. Rinse and repeat

                                I end up recompiling my kernel and other stuff on whatever installation I use anyway.
                                So having done autmagically will be a refreshing change
