Just got this last week...

normally at work I use win2K

@home, XP Pro (got a free FULL copy from a microsoft emloyee - he must have been drun/trying to sell me something )

@home 2 dabbling with RH9, it has truly come on leaps and bounds for a newbie! Its not a desktop replacement - yet - but its soooooo much better than 7....... - set up ALL the peripherals whitout ANY hichoughs - set up Samba, Print serving and apache in about 5 MINUTES - TOTAL time! (ok used mostly defaults/didnt understand some of the options, but hey! struck lucky, I guess!

I'm a XP convert. Used to run 2k even after XP was released. I decided to give it a try anyway, and after disabling a lot of useless bloat in XP (there's a lot), it seems nicer than 2k, and just as stable (my pc never crashes because of the OS itself).

Too bad you can't enter more than one entry for each user, because I run XP on 2 boxes, and linux on a third (server). imho Linux is far from being ready for desktop use. For server use, it's quite good.

I've tried XP and 2K on the same hardware. Straight patched after out of box, XP seems to load twice as fast. THey may have added bloat but they also seemed to have gotten rid of some as well.

I qualified enough for this that microsoft send me the marketing email in the first place and they send me the products. I suppose I am to use this to market their products for them, but I have no intentions to do this really. From what I know the software will not stop working in a year as they are full not for resale licences.
There are no additional costs that I am aware off.
I will read through all the paperwork at some point to verify this. IF you read the site yourself, did you see anything which looked like limitations on the use, other than you cannot resell it?

we also have the MS Actionpack subscription at our shop and that is how I got my XP Pro. As far as I know the software is NOT time bombed, just Not For Resale licenses. We are running mostly Win2K/Terminal Services at work so I couldn't let the XP Pro licenses go to waste

To me it looks like an annual subscription, so 12/24/36/48 months down the line you might just as well have pirated it, or paid the full price...

At work we are upgrading our all pcs to xp in the summer with Office 10, it was going to be 11 but the release date has slipped for this. These will be running on an NDS controlled network with a mixture of Novell, Microsoft and Citrix servers/services. All web/email applications use open source software.
