My Tyan Tiger MP has been an absolute champ running Linux. The only issue I have is that it won't power off after something's been using the RTC signals device (i.e. MPlayer), which may well be solved with the new ACPI system.

To add to what MultimediaMan said, the Tyan S2469 is a dual-AMD which has GbE on-board (+ a regular 100Mb as well).

    Could you expand on that?

Not many can afford the new Thunder 2469, but GoC is definitely a logical add-on.

Every once in a while people start complaining about Kernel Panics (Mostly with ASUS) and CPU0 dropouts with the MPX chipset. It is by no means common, but it seems to be recurrent.

Search through these Forums Here for more information.

But with most distros and hardware commonly used for workstations, they work very well.

As a side note: I've nearly got my GA-7DPXDW-P online (finally got the heatsinks yesterday), which will put me up to two Duallie AMDs and a Duallie Intel.

///EDIT - The Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P is now online (I'm typing this line with it...)\\\

Oh hey...forgot about this thread. Hehe. I had decided on the 8RDA+, But I have no problems with the newer SiS boards. Anyone know a good one in particular? Dual on board LAN is a plus. And it's gotta be good under linux.

        And I'd rather not go w/ a K7s5a...too old.

What you guys seem to forgett is that a server board is a server board not a desktop board! ~90+ of all boards are only guranead to work ~8-12H /day ver. real server boards that are tested for 24h/7 operations so if you want a cheap server go with a cheap Intel Woodruff or Winterpark combined with the Hudson III SC5250-E case(The rear fan of the Hudson III SC5250-E wont work on the current ver of the Woodruff but Intel will replase the mobo for free as soon as they get it fixed)!
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

yup. for now we're using Gugabyte SR113E for cheap fileservers. It's a single P4 board with DDR and IDE RAID. Put in a celeron or a cheap P4 a bit of RAM, a couple 180GXP and you've got a cheap fileserver....(less than 1000€)
