      OK, so we do need a splitter, yes

      Actually south Korea is the country with the most DSL connections worldwide! And I believe they have fast lines, too. How could you play starcraft while sharing files on Soribada if your con was slow?

        Or else you'll need the splitter/micro filter for every wall plug yes. A bit OTT imho. Then again, who am I?

          Here in the US, I think one of the fastest broadband options available is Cablevision's Optimum Online. People manage to get 8Mbps/1Mbps with their service. $40 - $50/month I think. Of course, I happen to fall just outside of their service area

            1Mbps = 25€ for students, 34€ for consumers here.

            Up to 4MBps for consumers, 8Mbps for companies - 133€.

            4Mbps = 53€ students, 58€ consumers

            Static IPs, flat rates, no limit for machines or bandwidth.

            However you have to buy ISDN, since Telecom is the biggest ISP (there is another ADSL ISP, cable sucks compared to ADSL price/performance-wise).

              PIT, get her level1 4-port router and print server for about 90€ (3com, realtek... come to mind as well).

              Get her NICs for every machine and get her LAN cabled nicely.

              Perform a Format C: on all machines, intall win2k, NT or XP, get adaware and set up firewall (either on router or on every machine).

                So where is the fastest Internet available for home users now?

                It seems that belgium with their 3.36Mbit is in the lead now ( probably super expensive though)
                Nope. 3.36 Mbps for 35€/month (all taxes included), with 128Kbps ulpload and 10GB traffic.

                Pay more and get more in upload and monthly bandwith (higher prices for companies/individuals that connect more than 4 computers -and want to do it by the book...).

                  Nope Nope Nope she'd be on the phone every night each time a light flashed or a web page didn't come up.

                      Well, in saxony somewhere, they got very modern fiberglass lines up into the houses. The problem is, ADSL doesn't work on those lines, so the people with the most modern lines in germany are stuck with ISDN.

                        I thought fibre lines are covered all over Germany nation-wide years ago?

                          Yep I have it...I only get 5mbps download due to a crappy 10/100 port on my Motorola Surfboard and my router. Its pently fast anyway. I can get 600kbps out of my Fileshack mercury account and I got that new Wolfstein game in like 5 minutes or less

                            The backbones are, of course, but not the last mile - except for this one region.
