Upgrading Win 2000 to XP

I've recently been concidering upgradeing to XP from 2000 and I'm wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experiences trying to do this. I do mean upgrade in the old fashioned sense, as in I don't want to format if I can get away with it. I've read that the XP upgrade path is actually quite robust but I wanted to confirm that from people that I trust (that would be you guys ).

So, if there are any horror stories or bits of info that I should know before I attempt this operation I'd appreciate hearing about them.

if memory serves me correctly you'll need the xp pro to upgrade from win2k.
in spite of your reluctance, I would still recommend a clean install!

Clean install or dont bother imo, as you are just asking for problems in the future.

Last time I tried it I got a blue screen of death.

Sometime I'll do a clean install possibly when I get my new lightening detector card installed.

Umm... it can be done, but you will eventually end up reinstalling. It's just the way of the OS.

Well, since it seems that doing an upgrade is not seen as a viable options then I'm just going to stick with 2000 for now. I have neither the time nor the patience to do a clean install in the forseeable future so I'd just as soon keep my nice stable and functional install of 2000 rather than spend the neccesary time to get those extra few conveniences that XP would hold for me.
