  • Help: Outlook 2002 not saving password

I have a problem that the MS method won't solve:

In Outlook 2002 on WXP Pro, I can't have it remember a password to a POP3 server. All options have been properly configured but it just won't remember it after I close and relaunch the program.

The MS method (KB 290684) talks about a Protected Storage System Provider. At some point I'm supposed to "Reset Permissions for all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions check box" and then click OK.

Problem is: I can't apply the change. Access denied, no can do -eventhough I'm logged in with admin rights and use regedt32.

Anyone has a good idea before I nuke the Outlook install?

Little question, is the Protected storage service enabled and running?
    Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
    Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
    Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

I have encountered this several time's and fixed it by following the instructions in the KB article you mentioned

You don't actualy have to do all that regedit32 crap, it is posible to just delete the offending key in normal retgedit
