    My Theory

    400 AGP version with possible a possible AGP to PCI -express bridge..

    ATi hit a few snags, so they will make a PCI-Express version with the option of an AGP version with a PCI_express to AGP bridge

    possible reasons-
    1) PCI-Express to AGP is a LOT easier to implement ?
    2)They want a full performance PCI-Express card out as soon as possible to fill the new niche that has just been created?

    I am willing to go with the POT theory only if someone passes me the scoob

      It' s not hard at all really. Just about any protocol out there today can be carried over PCI-Express. The device need not know it's even on 3GIO.
      Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

        @bsdgeek:

        [Easily, in fact look for Matrox's R420 killer in 2006-2007.]

        Perhaps it is not the fault of Matrox that they don't have the resources to develop 3 (!) different graphic-chips the same time, like the 'we hate our customers and what the hell do you mean with support?' ATI guys and the nVidia cheaters?!?!!?
        P IV 3,06 Ghz, GA-8ihxp i850e, 512 MB PC-1066 RDRam, Parhelia 128 mb 8x, 40 + 60 gb IBM 7200 upm/2048 kb HD, Samtron 96 P 19", black icemat, Razer Boomslang 2100 krz-2 + mousebungee, Videologic sonic fury, Creative Soundworks

            It IS Matrox's fault because they used to be on top, the kings, whatever. They had OEM deals up the wazoo bringing in all the $$$ they needed. Poor management and execution led Matrox to the position they are in today.
