As said above: if you think a bit about it, he really needs rotation and not an upside-down flip.

P.S.: Have you already tried UltraMon. Maybe this does it already and you don't have to buy a new card at all...

well, I thought about it, and you're absolutely right Indiana, rotation is what I want. I'll download ultramon and have a play.

Couldn't find a rotate function in ultramon, so posted on their support forum, what nice guys

UltraMon doesn't have a rotate feature.

Pivot Pro from Portrait Displays can do this.

Your display driver might also have this feature, for example recent Nvidia drivers (NVRotate).

          Doh, lateral thinking...

I can't believe this, Pivot Pro rotatable software came with my LCD display, I've the software I probably need sitting on an unused CD in the study for several months...

          I'll try it out.

Good luck - here's hoping that you can do 180deg rather than just 90 or 270!

              It's printed all over the cover, 90, 180, 270

I feel like such an idiot I haven't dared try to install it yet.

not looking too good, it flipped my screen, I launched Descaler, the window was upside down but corrupted and the TV picture the right way up. Then everything went pear shaped and I couldn't flip screen without a windows error. As a parting gesture it reset my display to 256 colours and I spent half the day trying to work out why Descaler would only give me a black picture.

There's an upgrade available but their site has been down all day,
I'm not exactly filled with confidence.

So you might still need a cheap ATI or NV card after all.

I'd go for a Radeon9600 non-Pro, as some of these are available passively cooled which is quite an important point for a HTPC.
Or, if you don't want to spend that much money and don't care about 3D performance at all, you could also take a GF FX5200 non-Ultra (ugh..)

I can, however, only confirm that this works with the ATI as I don't have access to a nVidia card at the moment

(You might want to lok at the card thop has got, the passively cooled Connect3D Radeon 9600

I accessed the Pivot site today, Kyro's of any flavour are not on their list of compatible cards (So much for being the most compatible piece of software out there). From the list of cards they support I'd guess they're just piggy backing off the drivers of cards that can do this anyway from display properties and making it look like they're doing it themselves

                      So I ordered this:

Sapphire Radeon 9000PRO 128MB DDR DVI TV-OUT Retail Box
                      Qty: 1
Cost: £65.90 + VAT of course
