I would've posted sooner but the convulsions from laughing so hard at Pauls ugly baby mug lasted a lot longer than I expected.
I'm totally for it - I think it's a great idea. I don't see bandwidth being an issue really - just mostly text posts about imaging topics - why would that be any different than the desktop video forum?
Now, a forum where all the desktop video guys could post their uncompressed video projects, THAT would be cool
Yes I drive a 13yr old Volkswagen; Yes I'm a dirt poor college student; Yes every tank of gas is more $$ than the value of my car, but it is FUN to drive, so I don't care about your ego or how much your car cost, if you insist on going the exact same speed in the passing lane as the car next to you for 10 minutes, stop being a self righteous ass, move the hell over and just let me by!!!
As a photo-amateur, I can only support the idea. Currently there are often longer threads (some being pulled slightly off topic by Az and myself ) about this. I agree on the bandwidth issue though: it shouldn't be a family-photo-album forum, but more a technical question related thing (which doesn't mean all photos must be banned).

Ok, on the line of a digital imaging forum, Can someone from North America explain this one to me.
I ordered a Lexar Pro 1GB 32X WA CF card from B&H Photo in New York, a $300+ item. It includes software and a USB cable for the card with which you download the software which is on the card.
When I got it in Switzerland, yesterday, I open the box, take the CF card out, but no cable. I check what's written on the box "download software with included cable before formatting card". No cable.
In the box I find a slip of paper stating "To receive your free JumpShot cable go to store.digitalfilm.com/jumpshot" and order it. This alone, for a professional product is inconceivable.
So I enter the URL and get NOTICE: Lexar online store only takes orders from North America, your IP is international, contact one of our international resellers. Which is what I had done in the first place. The online store site doesn't budge one bit farther.
It says further on the slip of paper "If you formatted your card and need another copy of Image Rescue go to store.digitalfilm.com/imagerescue. Same story NOTICE, you are an alien.
So I contact B&H Photo, who say they can do nothing, it's a Lexar thing. So I telephone Lexar support on their toll-free number which is not at all toll free from Switzerland. The support person says "I just checked our Online Store site and it works fine for me." I say of course it does because you are in Fremont CA and I am an alien. They promised to research this and "Get back to me".
No cable, no software, don't want to use the card until I can get the software off it, all of which I paid for in advance.
Can somebody make sense out of this for me, or is this a just another SNAFU? For what possible reason would the cable not be packed in a box that was also obviously made to include the cable?
How can you possibly take anything seriously?
Who cares?
It does sound like it might be a B&H snafu to me though - they sent my 10D without the battery grip or the skimpy 32MB cf card (which should've left the canon warehouse with it in the camera before even getting to B&H)
I'f your order confirmation and/or invoice mentions the cable then I guess it's just a question of bugging B&H until they send it and reimburse you for long distance calls.
If you decide to keep the card though, as an interim workaround until the cable issue is sorted out, can't you just transfer the software via camera plugged in to computer or cf reader if you have one?

Thanks seether, no it's definitely a Lexar thing. It's their note in the box, it's their web site and they also confirm it, though they haven't resolved it yet.
I just can't figure out for the life of me why? I thought maybe it was some sales gimmick to loop you into some other purchase, but that would go over like a fart in a space suit in the professional world.
Though I thought of it, I haven't tried it a camera yet. G2 is busy and the new G5, which I bought it for, gets here Monday.
But that is also the thing, the cable and card alone work like a USB HD, so no reader necessary. After any session I always download to the computer, so otherwise no need for a reader.

I'm not as much interested in the technical part but rather in the "art"- part. comments on good pictures, sceneries, lighting, flair... what can be done better?

"Lobsters?"
"Really? I didn't know they did that."
"Oh yes, red means help!"
How 'bout this Wulfman. I combined two photos I took in La Reunion to illustrate an article on violence I wrote for a CA mag. Two pix in CDR 11, transparency tool, convert to bitmap, e-mail to publisher.
