ICQ has been messed up for me for awhile. It wouldn't let me log in with the original ICQ client (2003a) but it would with WinGaim.... go figure. Anyhow the only reason I use ICQ at all anymore is for a back-up, for when Yahoo or MSN 6 is borked.

Oh yeah, it's probably still the best IM system out there. It allows mass IMs, and you can send messages to offline people. And you don't need a .NET account.

Is it still extremely buggy and full of worthless crap? I quit using it a few years back because it crashed so much. I could deal with the bloat but the crashing got annoying.

I use the full version at home and the 'lite' version at work. not a problem recently with either.

of course that excludes standard windows problems.

point of note is once your log file gets to be a few years old (mine is 5) it for some reason takes up a sizable chunk of memory.

I use Trillian Pro, on ICQ. The protocol is nice, the AOL clients aren't so.

I've never ever had Mirabilis ICQ 2001b crash on me (neither 99b which I used before that).

I don't like the new Lite version, because though the interface is nice, it is so slow that I get the impression it was programmed in Java or something

Bah, I prefer Yahoo Messenger. No passport accounts, double click a name to send a message by default, better Icons.

ICQ was good when it came out. It is far too outdated now.

I like the ICQ and Y! Messenger systems (NOT programs) the best.

Anyway, yeah, ICQ on Trill Pro has been funky lately. I've had similar issues. Then I logged in on ICQ lite (java version), logged off...and got back on Trillian/ICQ, and all was well.

ICQ is just still the one and only IM network for long-time IM users

I've come accustomed to its bloatness. The only thing I don't like is the server sometimes eating offline messages.

I am using miranda, and have been getting the odd failed password for a week or so now, just retrying 10 seconds later usually gets me through.
