I mean primarily support for the community with regards to MODS.

Also their otjer practices are nice, bonus packs, cd not needed after an official patch, the bother to include faiurly resonable cheat protection, no need for pb or other crap (Raven Shield)...

Gabe said that you only need Steam for online play. Single and LAN play you do not need Steam.

Having used steam a little now it's not that bad. Just needs some kinks ironed out of it.

Collectors edition is supposed to come with some serious bonuses as it may be upwards of 100. Maybe t-shirt, nice case, etc.

I believe Helvetia is right. Single player and LAN play won't try to authenticate with Steam.

Oh and Valve, as far as I know, is more customer friendly than any other studio. Newell answers nearly every email he receives, he has given tours of their offices to fans and they are testing Steam by giving away the original HL for free.

So they shoudl give half-life away for free it is after all nearly 5 years old and they have made a huge amount of money out of and Opposing Force.

Jammrock, what does steam provide over any other game browser as a browser? Does it get you into the game and make the first kill for you.

Not interested in any other features, If I want to chat to my clan mates etc I use our forum, irc....

          Off-Topic - More then I have been.

I appreciate that value are fairly customer friendly. With a few online people I have met over the years I am trying to get moving with a full game MOD. Top of my list is UT 2003/2003 but second would definitely be Half-Life 2, for support and the tools, I hope.

Just got to persuade the rest of team, the majority want to use a commercial Quake 3 MOD (Call of Duty). puke..puke..modding for Quake 3..puke!.

I thought I read somewhere that steam will have to authuncate single player or LAN games, but just for the first two weeks due to ****oles copying the game and returning it to the store and keeping the Serial numbers so they can play online?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

                  HL2 is officially delayed

                  From Doug Lombardi of Valve:

The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

Can't remember where but I read that when play tested the crew said that the story/game did not have the polish of the original.

Hoping that is why it is being delayed, like D3 they are guarenteed a huge number of sales even if the game is crap, hope that isn't the case though.

                              New release date set

It's Soon™, but not before summer

While still shying away from giving a firm date, Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, said the company "is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2".
Hopefully they're referring to summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
