I said we were planning on delivering the game to Sierra in August... to the best of our admittedly weak planning abilities, we are looking at August," Valve CEO Gabe Newell told hl2fallout.com, revealing that the game should be gold next month - and on sale in late August or September by our reckoning. "Half-Life 2 is about 3.5GB uncompressed and about 2GB compressed," Newell also revealed in his latest posting, adding "This doesn't include CS:Source, HL-1:Source, DoD:Source, the SDK, or whatever. It's just the straight HL-2 sizes."
note he didn't mention a year"Women don't want to hear a man's opinion, they just want to hear their opinion in a deeper voice."

Gabe mentioned in another forum today that they are shooting for a release candidate by the endof the month.
HL-2, we're looking to RC at the end of the month.
Looks like they will make the August Gold date. So, mid to late September hopefully.Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

Don't worry by the time it comes out you'll running dual 10 gig procs in one chip package.

And I'm especially grateful they told me I need a mouse and keyboard to play. I was afraid I'd have to use some form of electromagnetic telepathy to control the game.
