Typically the neighbours turned back up so I had to switch to headphones since the kiddies go to bed around 8.15 to 9. Plenty of options for headphone listening so the people who believe that louder the bass the better it sounds will be happy.
PowerDVD in my opinion has the best audio decoding of the big dvd software packages. They've made a lot of improvements on video decoding also, and I think its on par with the current Cinemaster decoding engine now too.
Just upgraded to this from 4.0 XP and it won't play DVDs properly, it's as if it's skipping fom frozen frame to frozen frame at 5 second intervals, yet the 4.0 version worked perfectly. Duron 700, 256Mb Ram, Kyro 2 video card, so well within spec and not trying to use any of the new video gizmos
Dave, did you choose the correct version 5 upgrade?
you need a different upgrade package if your previous version was only 2 channel than if it was a 6 channel version!
There's a bug in PowerDVD 5. Previously dZeus had reported it with SVCD's, and it IS more blatant there, but I'm getting periodic corruption even on DVD playback.
Sad, because overall the quality is quite nice.

I would still get screwed
@ayoub_ibrahim
thanks for the thought, but I got the right upgrade and paid for it. I paid to get 4.0 XP multi-speaker as an upgrade from an OEM 3.0. In order to go back to my 4.0 XP, I had to dig out my old 3.0 OEM disk and install that with it's registration details, then install my 4.0 upgrade on top of that, which is now working perfectly, as it always did.
I'll leave 5.0 in my download folder until their tech support explains why a 700 Duron won't play it when they quote a 350 chip as minimum spec...
Don't forget that WinDVD had become the uberwhore of software DVD decoders...
$100 (but it's on sale for $70 right now) for WinDVD 5 Platinum
And... the best part is... IT ONLY SUPPORTS 2 CHANNEL AUDIO! WOOOHOOO!!!! For just $13 more dollars you can buy their "Audio Booster Pack" and get multichannel support! What a bunch of greedy bastards! I started at WinDVD 2000, and it looks like WinDVD 4 Plus is the last version of WinDVD I'll ever buy... PowerDVD from now on out.
