  • Please Recommend a DVI Cable

    Dear All,

I just ordered a Syncmaster 191T and relalized that it is not shipping with a DVI cable. I looked around on the net but was confused by the many types DVI cables available. Can someone explain to me which type to go with? Which make is both good and reasonabley priced? I saw a Belkin Pro cable that is quite expensive at around $40.

Thanks very much for any help!

18+1 (single link) or 24+1 (dual link), doesn't make a difference for your screen. get the cheapest one, they are all the same.
    no matrox, no matroxusers.

Thanks very much for the advice, thop. Does that mean that the single link type is cheaper? And what exactly does it mean single vs dula link?

      Thanks again for the reply.

Single means single channel or 165mHz bandwidth. Dual channel means it has 330mHz bandwidth

Parhelia/P750 have two, single channel DVI outputs.

Dual link allows more data through the cable, thus allowing higher resolutions (which your screen can't use anyway).

Like he said, just get the cheapest no-name cable you can find, or the one with the prettiest plugs, or the nice pink glow in the dark one, they're all the same Don't concern yourself with brand names, single or dual link, oxygen free copper and whatever the creative marketing people have come up with

Thanks everyone for the great help! I just have one more newbie question here before doing my purchase: it's the male to male type that I should get, right??

            Thanks again,

Yup, standard DVI cable is male to male.
Nothing out there really uses dual-link anyway, since you only really need it for 3megapixel truecolor and up.

Pretty much any dvi cable will do.. since its just for home use you don't need to worry about getting better shielded ones.

If you look around on the net you can find very good quality shielded dual channel cables for $20 (10'), $15 for single.
