Ghost and smartdrv

I don't but the backup is so darn slow. My theory is that bus mastering isn't enabled although it says it is in the Bios. No bios upgrade available for the motherboard though.
Smartdrv may help to speed it up a little.

You can, in theory, use SmartDRV with Ghost. It may or may not help.

Yes, anything that really executes in DOS mode will benefit from Smartdrv.
The issue is that with Ghost, your controller's throughput is pretty much pegged... caching ain't gonna help.

hm...wich chipset?
Could it be that it's a VIA chipset? If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

150 mb per min compaired to 450 - 500 on another machine.
It's either the maxtor thats crap under dos or it's bios problem. The hardrives are on different channels which can't helped.

ARR...Sis, a lot of sis chipsets default to busmastering disabled in the bios or even disabled with no bios option, which is not much of a problem since your OS will usualy turn it on as soon as its loaded
(it will it is the case with my sis 735)
So verify busmastering for IDE is enabled.
It should be in the features or cpu setup in some bios's
(Note: this is not HDD mode setting, its the PCI busmaster thingy)
And I agree about smartdrv. It is worth getting up and running for dos stuff, bus master or not as it can more than double performance in dos...
But I cannot verify on its compatabilty with ghost(But I do seem to recall people saying it worked)

It's on in the bios 99% sure it is. No dos bus mastering drivers of course.
