Searching for a low noise IDE HD, any recommandations?
I think the best noise/performance ratio are the 8mb versions of the 180GXP. Just a bit louder than the 'Cudas, but a lot faster, and more capable of doing video work, etc.
and the Barracuda 7200.7 and IBM 180 GXP seem to be about equally fast under most circumstances, with the 7200.7 being faster than the 180GXP in some tests, and the 180GXP faster than the 7200.7 in other tests, with the most noticable difference that the 180GXP seems to have a firmware more optimised for 'server' use. I don't see how that would help video work though.
I said 8MB buffer helps the general performance of the drive (for just about everything other than video work), and unrelated to that, the 180GXPs (regardless of buffer size), are faster and more capable of video work than the 'Cudas
