Forget the wizard it's confusing you.

Go to my computer >: control panel > network connections.

Right click on your dialup network connection and choose properties.

    Click on advanced.

Under internet connection sharing untick the box next to Allow other Network users to connect through this computers internet connection.

Pit, there is no option available to untick anything, that part of the properties box is empty. I agree I need to disallow other network users to use my PC as their network gateway and use the PC. But that is the problem.

Note the other computers will proably lose the internet connection don't worry about that for now.
The routher is set up as DHCP server enabled. But when you say not to worry about other users losing their internet connection to me - how do i enable them to regain the internet connection. Before they could just to plug the ethernet cable into the back of their PC's network card and be surfing - no mess no fuss.

Will the have to configure something on their software - like IE explorer or Kazaa to be able to use the web now?

Because ultimately how will I know I was successful in all this network tweaking on my PC is I do not have the evidence that the other computers connected to the router can surf with my PC off?

And lastly; In my network connections box i have under DIAL - UP my internal USR modem (showing disconnected)

Below that is INTERNET GATEWAY showing ENABLED

and BELOW that is the LAN or HIGH SPEED showing Local Area Connection 7 Enabled

I only mention this is I was wondering if I shoud really even have the "INTERNET GATEWAY" icon even there. It does not allow me to delete it and I am a bit concerned that it part of the larger problem...just a guess.

The internet gateway is there becuase you've got ics installed somehow.

Windows XP's Internet Connection Sharing allows an ICS client computer to remotely monitor and control the ICS server computer's Internet connection.

Right click and chose disable it.

If the other PC's are routing trafic through this one then ICS must be working. For it to be working the PC must have two network connections i.e. two network cards or a network card plus a USB connection. If it's two network cards then the router would need to be connected to one of them whilst the PC's are connected to the either via a hub or switch. From what's been described all the PC's are connected directly to the D-Link router

when I right click and i disable it - then my router loses the IP number. So then I cannot access the web. If I "renew" on the router admin page; i get my old IP and back and the problem revives.

Taz, I have my adsl modem connected to my router's wan which connects to my network card and other computers in the house.

yes; there is a built in LAN in the motherboard but it is disabled thru the bios. there is also a internal usr 56k modem but it also is disabled.

I just tried uninstalling the network card drivers thru the system device manager and reinstalled...same problem...the internet gateway shows up in the network connections....i then look at internet gateway properties...then disable it...and then in my router admin page i see that under WAN connections I have totally lost my IP adrress and it says DHCP client disconnected...so i have to renew it...and then i am back to square one.

Taz, my phone line goes into the Linksys ADSL modem, from there it goes into the wan of my router; and from there it connects to my PC and others in the house

ps...anyone know why an ECS Ks75a motherboard would just spontaneously reboot on its own.

Are you using the latest BIOS for it?

Can't see why it does that shouldn't effect your router at all.

Interesting to see what happens when you re-install XP.
