So, I just bought a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro and I'm having a refresh problem with it. Any resolution 1024x768 and lower I can set the refresh rate as I choose, within the limits of my monitors capabilities. Any res over that however, ie. 1152x864, the res that I run at most of the time, I cannot set it above 60hz. Rather, to be specific, I can 'change' the refresh, but it doesn't actually take hold, although windows says it does. The monitor controls however tell me that it's still at 60hz (as well as my eyes).
The monitor is a Mag 720v2 that has a max res of 1280x1024@75hz. My Parhelia worked fine at this res/refresh.
So far I've tried refresh force, rage3d tweak, switching the monitor from the vga out to the dvi out w/adapter, and PowerStrip. The only thing that has worked so far is using the custom timings in PowerStrip and manually ratcheting it up to 75hz. This is not the best solution as I see it. One thing I haven't tried yet is using older versions of the Cat's. So far I've only used 3.6. One last thing, this is all under a fresh install of XP Pro SP1. I had the same problem under 2000 before I formatted though.
So, anyone have any brilliant idea's?
