DVD Burner: software recommendations?

I just picked up a DVD burner (great deal too, it seems). Its an LG drive that burns every DVD format known to man, and plain CDRs too. Got it from Futureshop (Canada) for $299, and there is a $100 mail-in rebate, bringing the price down to $199. These things sold out in minutes here (they had 23, and were down to 12 within 30 minutes).

Sooo anyone here burn DVDs? What software do you use? The drive came with some stuff I've never heard (called "B's Recorder Gold 5.32", not installed yet). I heard the latest Nero (6) does DVD as well. I just wanted to hear what you guys use, since your all so damn smart usually.

I'm currently using Nero 5.5.10.42 with my Pioneer DVR-A06. Works like a charm.

Try DVDShrink + CopyToDVD (both are free!) to make backups of your movies. Otherwise nero 6.0 or EzCDCreator 6 also work fine.

For data, Iv'e used EZ cd creator without a problem - simple. straight forward.
I stll haven't decided which works best for video - I'm still playing with a few packages.

Ok, this is a complex question. I'm going to pitch you a bunch of scenarios.

1. Nero 6 SUCKS ASS FOR DVD. Well, I'll clarify that. It sucks ass for VIDEO DVD. Video DVD's made with Nero have a HUGE failure rate in set-top boxes. Oops!

2. Let's say you wanna burn PS2 DVD's. The ONLY software worth considering is RecordNow (the current version is RecordNow DX 4.61 and is available from Sonic).

3. Let's say you wanna copy a video DVD. The best software out there is DVD Shrink. It's freeware, it rips, transcodes, and records. It rules. There are other pieces of software available for this, but DVD Shrink is a GREAT starting point.

Muchos gracias Gurm, and everyone else too. I do have Nero 6, and I'll probably stick to it for data burning. I never even thought about copying PS2 discs since I'm not much of a console guy, but if you can make perfect copies and no PS2 modding is needed, I might just pick up a PS2 now.

Does Prassi/Sony CD Extreme exist for DVDs? I know it loads a lot faster than Nero.

Prassi sold out to Veritas, who until recently owned all the patents involved in RecordNow.

So Prassi's DVD product, which was called PrimoDVD, is now Sonic RecordNow DX.

And no, you cannot just copy a PS2 disc perfectly. You still need a mod chip. Sorry.

Anyway, there's lots of software. Unlike CD's, where I now only use Nero for all my cd burning needs (except the odd image I get in CloneCD or Disc Juggler format), DVD's are still in the "gotta have a dozen apps on your machine" stage. But they're getting there, and out of those dozen apps I only use DVD Shrink (or its counterparts, depending on the movie) or RecordNow with any regularity.

Just downloaded and ran DVDShrink - reauthored a DVD and took just the main title.

Funny thing was that when I play the DVD on my Sony player in the lounge, the subtitles come on?

Any ideas on how to stop this happening?

Again - ask at DVDRHelp, I think there are several topics in the past week concerning that "automatic subtitle" thing.

Then again, some COMMERCIAL DVD's I own do that. *shrug*

I sucks when the subtitles are either encoded in the movie or when they are forced to always on

I agree DVDschrink is awesome. It´s free and it does better than DVDxCopy express. For burning DVD´s I use Nero 6 and I still haven´t got any problems, even with cheap media and playing it back on a PS2.
