Yes, it's the best denoising program there is, but if you overdo it or don't know what you're doing, you can still ruin a picture with it, by making it look flat, soft, and boring.
A little grain can actually be good for an image: It'll look crisper and more interesting, and sharper (because the brain interpolates). Also, a lot of the noise you see on your screen at 100% is not (or a lot less) visible in prints.

Oh yes, but that also has to do with the greater dynamic range of film, and that it doesn't go into over- or underexposure quite as harshly as digital, the transition is smoother.

But then there's that whole "grain effect" that Lucas has been using lately in his digital films. Looks like poop.

I've been using Neat Image for quite a while... It's really good, much better than the equivalent filters in image processing packages. I suspect this software is pretty much what all those fashion magazines etc. use for their images.
Neat Image may not be the most intuitive software to use, but follow the "How to Use" section on their webpage or the "Getting started" in the help file, and you can quite quickly get the hang of it.

Gurm, when was the last time you saw good CGI from Lucas?
Tempest, welcome back
all BTW, if you want to print out images REAL big (say A2 for a 5mp file), it'll look better if you ADD a little noise to the enlarged file!

You should definately check it out, it'll help greatly for your D7Hi. ISO800 is almost unusable, IMHO.
